- The Directorate was established in 1982. It functions through the following major organs:
As it is supposed to address a vast and downtrodden section of society, it has assumed a
status of vital department at the level of State Government.
Under the democratic set up, as it is a solemn practice to discharge the administrative
function of government according to the aspirations of the concerned section of the
society, the department of Scheduled Castes Welfare function on the aid and advice of S.C.
Advisory Board. All the major decisions and policies pertaining to the development of SC
communities are taken at this level, which becomes the broad guiding principles for the SC
development in the state.
In the beaurocratic structure at the apex ministerial level the department is headed by the Principal Secretary who functions with the assistance of a Secretary, Additional Secretary and Deputy Secretaries along with a few under Secretaries.
Scheduled Caste Commission is a statutory body set up to serve as a watchdog of Sch. caste interest and to advise the state government accordingly.
