To protect the rights of the Scheduled Tribe communities in accordance with constitutional safeguards provided to them.
 

To formulate plans, policies and Schemes for the overall development of the Scheduled Tribe communities.
 

To ensure accelerated development in Tribal dominated areas by way of augmenting funds and its judicious applications based on  needs of the Tribal communities 
 

To function as a nodal department in coordinating and monitoring of Programmes of Tribal welfare especially in Tribal dominated districts.
 

 To implement educational and economic development programmes along with various support Schemes for maximizing the benefits in favour of the Tribal communities.

   To uplift Tribal communities from below poverty line.

   To bring Tribal communities in to the main stream at par with General population.
